Who is Florida Health Care Plans?
Florida Health Care Plans (FHCP) is a Daytona Beach HMO with an unusual history. It was the first federally qualified HMO in Florida and the second in the entire country. It is now an affiliate of Florida Blue and part of the GuideWell family of companies, but it still operates as its own regional plan rather than a Florida Blue product line.
What makes it different is that FHCP owns the care. Most insurers rent a network. FHCP runs its own integrated care centers, with primary and multispecialty physicians, on-site pharmacies, labs, radiology and ultrasound, extended-hours centers and an ambulatory surgery center. Across its service area it operates 32 facilities including 6 extended hours care centers, alongside a contracted network of more than 9,500 doctors, specialists and hospitals.
It is regional on purpose. FHCP serves Volusia, Flagler, Brevard, Seminole and St. Johns counties and around 100,000 members. If you live in that corridor it is one of the strongest options in the state. If you live in Miami or Tampa, it is not available to you and we will point you elsewhere.
